  • Four aspiring adventurers will win a trip to space with launch of Land Rovers Galactic Discovery competition
  • Adventurers Sir Richard Branson, Bear Grylls, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Virginia McKenna help launch Land Rovers trip of a lifetime to celebrate debut of New Discovery Sport
  • New compact SUV is premiered through online video, filmed at Spaceport America, the home of Virgin Galactic
  • Global competition expected to attract thousands of entries from over 40 countries

Four friends are set to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to space with Land Rovers Galactic Discovery competition, a ground-breaking on-line search for a group of aspiring astronauts to go on the ultimate adventure. The incredible Virgin Galactic space flight prize was announced to audiences around the world through a film featuring a group of the worlds greatest-living adventurers and personalities, including Sir Richard Branson, Bear Grylls and Sir Ranulph Fiennes. It will be the first time that a competition has offered the chance for a group of four friends to win a trip to space. The winners will be among the first pioneering travellers to view the earth from space and experience out-of-seat zero gravity.

The extraordinary opportunity is being offered by Land Rover and Virgin Galactic to mark the reveal of the New Discovery Sport, a compact and versatile SUV and first of a new Discovery family. The car was unveiled to the world in a film shot at Spaceport America, New Mexico, which will be the base for Virgin Galactics sub-orbital space flights. The film forms part of Land Rovers biggest ever digitally-led campaign, debuting the New Discovery Sport exclusively to an online audience for the first time. Over the next four months, the brand will harness the power of social media, PR and digital marketing across 40 countries to launch the New Discovery Sport and seek out the worlds most adventurous spirits. The campaign will culminate with the announcement of the four winners in December 2014.

Phil Popham, Jaguar Land Rover Group Marketing Director, said: Only Land Rover could offer this incredible opportunity: the chance to win the most spectacular group journey of a lifetime. Our heritage is rooted in adventure, exploration and a desire to go above and beyond, and nothing embodies this spirit of discovery more than a trip to space.

British adventurer and Land Rover ambassador, Bear Grylls, will play a hands-on role in helping the winning group prepare for their voyage beyond the final frontier. He said: This prize really is the ultimate adventure of a lifetime. Ive stood on top of Mount Everest and looked up at the black above me, thinking theres only one place higher to go now. As humans, it is in our DNA to go where people have never been before, and now four friends have the opportunity to do that.

Land Rover has assembled a group of experienced adventurers and personalities to back the Galactic Discovery mission, including legendary British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes; entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Galactic, Sir Richard Branson; and former actress and wildlife campaigner Virginia McKenna. Each of the stars brings their adventurous spirit, gravitas and wisdom to the launch film, which can be viewed Click here

To enter the competition, aspiring astronauts from across the globe are being asked to produce a 30-second video, or a still image, that demonstrates their spirit of adventure, choose three friends to join them on their space adventure and submit it via Land Rovers website (http://www.landrover.com/gotospace). Land Rover expects to receive tens of thousands of entries from over 40 countries across the globe.

The Galactic Discovery collaboration signals the next phase of two pioneering companies Land Rover and Virgin Galactic working together to push the boundaries of travel and adventure for the next generation. A global partnership between the brands was announced in New York in April this year, and when flights begin, a fleet of Land Rovers will play a key role in Virgin Galactics space experience, with future astronauts driving in the vehicles from the spaceport in New Mexico to the spaceship to begin their trip across the final frontier.

George Whitesides, CEO of Virgin Galactic, said: We share the same spirit of adventure and exploration as Land Rover and it inspires everything we do. Democratising space and giving individuals around the world from all walks of life an opportunity to see the Earth from above is at the heart of our mission as a spaceline.

Land Rover and Virgin Galactic are now exploring potential collaborations, projects and the development of immersive experiences for customers. They are also actively working together on joint STEM education programmes, which encourage young people to aspire to a future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Both brands see the huge potential to develop their partnership to inspire others and motivate more young people to pursue careers in these vitally important fields.

Land Rover Galactic Discovery has been launched in celebration of the unveiling of the New Discovery Sport, the worlds most versatile premium compact SUV, and the first member of the new Discovery family.

Six teams set to take the start line as the Defender Challenge by Bowler series heads to Shropshire

Round 5 of the Defender Challenge by Bowler series takes place this weekend as part of the Woodpecker Rally in Shropshire. Motorsport fans will see six teams compete for top honours, as the inaugural Defender Challenge by Bowler rally series will form an integral part of the Woodpecker Stages event for the first time. Teams will be based at Ludlow Racecourse, where scrutineering will take place as well as the official start and finish of the race and awards presentations activity. The all gravel rally course will test the teams and their Bowler-prepared Land Rover Defender 90 vehicles across 43 stage miles and some of the best forest stages in the country.

Heading into Round 5, father and son team Rob and Jonny Harford lead the Championship by just one point from Edd Cobley, who recorded his third victory of the season in the previous round at the Welsh Hill Rally.

Edd Cobley said: With just three stages to go, its exciting to be in contention for the Championship. Its been a fantastic debut series for the Defender Challenge and with a great sense of camaraderie between all the drivers; were looking forward to another race weekend.

Weather conditions made the previous round in Wales incredibly tough, but the Defender handled everything that was thrown its way and we were delighted to top the podium. Im expecting another tough test at the Woodpecker Stages, but come rain or shine we will be ready to race and looking to top the podium again.

Race2Recovery also head to Shropshire in good spirits as they push for a fourth consecutive podium finish. The team is comprised of a number of people with disabilities and received backing from long-term partner Land Rover to enable them to compete in the series. Race2Recovery team member Ben Gott said: We are continuing to grow as a team and are learning a lot from taking part in our first race series. Its great to see co-driver Stephanie Boddez gaining more experience and confidence with every round. Were looking forward to the challenge of securing another podium finish in Ludlow, and the final stages of the Defender Challenge.

2014 is the inaugural year of the Defender Challenge by Bowler race series, which features seven rounds, held across the UK. The series has been created to offer competitors a clear pathway to progress to further international rally raid competition such as the Africa Race and Dakar Rally.

Drew Bowler, Managing Director of Bowler Motorsport will make his rally debut when competing in this weekends stage. He said: With just three rounds to go, the Defender Challenge by Bowler series is really hotting up. The first four rounds have provided some great rallying and we looking forward to seeing six teams tackle the testing all-gravel course in Ludlow.

  • Land Rover Discovery becomes the most successful model in the Tow Car Awards history, with seventh win in eight years
  • Supreme luxury and towing ability earn the Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic the new Money No Object Award
  • Awards are based on extensive practical testing undertaken by expert judges, and are presented by the Camping and Caravanning Club, Practical Caravan and What Car?

Whitley, UK, 13 June 2014 Land Rover has claimed double honours in the Tow Car Awards. The Discovery remains the pre-eminent car in its class and becomes the most successful car in the history of the awards with its seventh class win in eight years. The Range Rover Sport is the first recipient of a new Money No Object Award.

The Discovery 3.0 SDV6 XS once again proved itself the class of the field in the 1900kg+ category, continuing to perform better than all its rivals, including more recently launched competitors. It is Discoverys fifth consecutive win and its seventh award in eight years, a record unmatched by any other vehicle.

The judges declared: It is going to take a really superb car to beat the Discovery. Power, performance, stability, practicality it has the lot.

The experienced panel which put the Land Rover to the test were impressed by the ease with which it tackles towing duties, in particular its confident and decisive overtaking and smooth, unflustered manner in which it can be slowed, regardless of the weight of caravan attached. It also excelled in lane changing, motorway cruising and hill starts.

The new Money No Object Award was bestowed on the Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic, praised by the judges as a phenomenal tow car.

They concluded: Put price aside for a moment, you wont find a more capable heavyweight tow car. Dawdling traffic wont be in the way for long, as the sprint from 30-60mph takes just 9.6 seconds, even with a big twin-axle caravan in tow. The Range Rover Sports stability was the stand-out factor, demonstrated in the awards lane-change test. Towing at 60mph feels like 40mph in the Sport, and the Range Rover seemed impervious to crosswinds, even at speeds that would have your collar felt on a British motorway, the judges noted.

Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks said: These awards are a great reward for the strength of Land Rover design and engineering. Discovery continues to set the benchmark for its class, in spite of the arrival of newer rivals on the market, and with Range Rover Sport we are delighted that independent experts consider it offers the ultimate combination of prestige, luxury and performance.

  • Edd Cobley takes his second podium top spot
  • Race2Recovery follow their previous win with a second place
  • Challenge for the title wide open with four rounds remaining

Southwell, Nottinghamshire Saturday 7th June, 2014: Sherwood Forest came alive this weekend as the Defender Challenge by Bowler delighted spectators at the 55th Dukeries Rally in Nottinghamshire. Seven teams lined-up in their Bowler-prepared Land Rover Defender 90 vehicles for Round 3 of the series, which aims to provide a pathway for teams who aspire to compete in the toughest races in the world, such as the Dakar and the Africa Race.

Edd Cobley and his co-driver Allan Jackson took top honours after a thrilling days racing through the tough forest gravel tracks and dirt roads of Nottinghamshires famous Sherwood Forest.

Teams set off from Southwell Racecourse before 44 miles of stage racing saw the skills of drivers and co-drivers tested across a route incorporating forest areas such as Watchwood, Sherwood Pines and Blidworth Woods. Heavy rain throughout the morning meant track conditions were very slippery with all competitors reporting difficult stretches requiring absolute concentration. So difficult were the conditions, that the overall rally had a 30 per cent DNF (Did Not Finish) rate. All seven Defenders completed the entire course.

The popular Race2Recovery, well-known for their previous record-breaking Dakar exploits, had been looking to build on their debut victory in Round 2. Driver Quin Evans, and navigator Stephanie Boddez took 2nd place in class. The team is using the series to train up new recruits including civilians and people from the military who have suffered injury or illness and are looking for a way to inspire their rehabilitation.

Speaking at the finish line, Edd Cobley said: I had a fantastic day and despite the conditions, felt really comfortable in the car. The surfaces were a real challenge varying from loose tarmac to gravel to pine leaves which feel just like ice. Allan has been brilliant and we have overtaken quite a few of the rally cars out on stage. To take a second win after three stages is absolutely brilliant and above all the atmosphere and camaraderie between all the competitors is fantastic its been a really enjoyable event.

Reflecting on a strong day of racing, Quin Evans from Race2Recovery who finished second said: Another great day and another great result. Stephanie has been learning to read the pace notes and we have performed really well. There really is no better way to pick up the skills and build confidence.

Speaking at the finish line, Jon Chester, Brand Director, Bowler said: The weather made conditions remarkably challenging today and everyone experienced the fine balance between pace and finishing the race. The Defenders performed exceptionally well with all seven vehicles making it to the finish line in a race where there was a very high level of attrition. We look forward to the next round in July which will be the Challenges first Hill rally and will further test the driving and navigation skills of all the competitors.

With four rounds still remaining, the teams are set to meet further challenges across a demanding blend of hill rallies and stage rallies spread across South Wales, Shropshire and Dorset, before the final round takes place in Scotland in mid-November. Entrants will also have the option of competing in additional rallies in Europe and North Africa alongside the Bowler Works team. From the start, Jeep designers knew the Renegade would need to deliver best-in-class off-road capability with city-sized proportions that exuded the brands rugged style while at the same time enhancing versatility, manoeuvrability and style. Additionally designers were tasked to create an all-new SUV that would symbolise the brands renowned American design and ingenuity, as it would mark the Jeep brands first entry into the small SUV segment in more than 100 markets around the globe. Lastly, Renegade had to offer the open-air freedom that dates back to its 1941 roots with the Willys MB Jeep.

The result is the all-new 2015 Renegade, a vehicle that builds on the Jeep Wranglers powerful stance, and features fresh new styling with rugged body forms and aggressive proportions that enable best-in-class approach and departure angles purposely designed to deliver best-in-class off-road capability. And for segment-exclusive panoramic views, two available My Sky open-air roof panel systems conveniently stow to provide passengers open-air freedom with ease.

All-new interior exudes a rugged and energetic appearance
The all-new Jeep Renegade interior features a rugged and energetic appearance that builds upon Jeeps legendary brand heritage. Its precisely crafted detail, innovative and high-quality colour and material appointments, state-of-the-art technology, and clever storage features draw inspiration from contemporary extreme sports gear and lifestyles.

The interior of the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has a distinctive form language which Jeep designers have titled Tek-Tonic. This new design theme is defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the legendary Jeep Wrangler. Unique protective clamp fasteners, anodised design accents and inspired colours are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the newly familiar X shapes inspired by its roof and tail lamps add to Renegades Tek-Tonic interior look. Additionally, the Renegade is designed with an efficient and flexible interior package that includes a removable, reversible and height-adjustable cargo floor panel and fold-forward front-passenger seat.

My Sky: continuing Jeep open-air freedom since 1941
Keeping the tradition of the legendary 1941 Willys MB Jeep, the all-new 2015 Renegade offers open-air freedom with two available My Sky open-air roof systems.

With a manual removable, or removable with premium power tilt/slide feature, the segment-exclusive My Sky roof-panel systems quickly bring the outdoors inside. Designed for convenience, the honeycomb fibreglass polyurethane roof panels are lightweight and stow neatly in the rear cargo area. For added design detail, both My Sky roof systems feature a debossed X stamped into the roof that exude strength and play on the brands utilitarian history.

Best-in-class off-road capability with world-class on-road driving dynamics
Designed and engineered to first and foremost deliver legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, the all-new 2015 Renegade is the first small SUV from Chrysler Group to use the all-new small-wide 4x4 architecture.

With its fully independent suspension capable of up to 205 mm (8.1 inches) of wheel articulation and 220 mm (8.7 inches) of ground clearance (Trailhawk), Renegade raises the bar in the small SUV segment with best-in-class off-road capability.

Extensive use of advanced steels, composites and advanced computer-impact simulations enable the all-new 2015 Renegades architecture to deliver world-class torsional stiffness and Jeep brands durability required for Trail Rated adventures.

The all-new Renegade is the first Jeep to integrate Konis frequency selective damping (FSD) front and rear strut system. This damping system enables the Jeep Renegade to deliver world-class road-holding and handling characteristics.

Designed for global markets: 16 powertrain combinations
True to the Jeep brand, the all-new Renegade will offer customers in global markets maximum off-road capability and fuel efficiency. The Renegade will offer up to 16 strategic powertrain combinations the most ever in a Jeep vehicle customised to markets around the world to meet a range of performance and efficiency needs. Powertrain options include:

  • Two MultiJet II diesel engine offerings
  • Efficient and flex-fuel capable E.torQ engine
  • Emissions and fuel-saving Stop&Start technology
  • Segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission
  • Two manual and one dual-dry clutch transmission (DDCT) offerings

Worlds first small SUV with nine-speed automatic transmission
Like the new Jeep Cherokee, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has raised the bar this time in the small SUV class with the first available nine-speed automatic transmission. When paired with either the 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine, or 2.4-litre MultiAir2 petrol engine, the nine-speed transmission delivers numerous benefits customers will appreciate, including aggressive launches, smooth power delivery at highway speeds and improved fuel efficiency versus a six-speed automatic transmission.

Segment-exclusive technologies once found only on higher classed SUVs
The all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade offers technology features once found only in upper-segment vehicles, and makes them attainable to customers in the growing small SUV segment including award-winning Uconnect Access, Uconnect touchscreens and the segments largest full-colour instrument cluster.

  • Uconnect Access: Utilises embedded cellular technology to allow Jeep Renegade occupants to get directly in contact with local emergency-service dispatchers all with the push of the 9-1-1 Assist button on the rearview mirror. Uconnect Access applies the same logic to roadside assistance. One push of the ASSIST button summons help directly from Chrysler Groups roadside assistance provider, or the Vehicle Customer Care Centre. Further peace of mind comes from the systems ability to receive text messages, announce receipt of texts, identify senders and then read the messages aloud with Bluetooth-equipped mobile phones. AOL Autos named Uconnect Access its Technology of the Year for 2013. (Uconnect services may vary in different markets)
  • Uconnect touchscreen radio systems: Award-winning in-vehicle handsfree communication, entertainment and available navigation. Key features available on the Uconnect 5.0 and 6.5AN systems include a 5.0-inch or 6.5-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, single or dual-tuner, radio data system capability (RDS), digital audio broadcast (DAB), HD Radio, digital media broadcasting (DMB), SiriusXM Radio, SiriusXM Travel Link, SiriusXM Travel Link, USB port and auxiliary audio jack input. (Uconnect services may vary in different markets.)
  • Segments largest full-colour instrument cluster display: Filling the Jeep Renegades instgrument cluster in front of the driver is a seven-inch, full-colour, premium multiview display, featuring a reconfigurable function that enables drivers to personalise information inside the instrument cluster. The information display is designed to visually communicate information, using graphics and text, quickly and easily.

  • Driver Edd Cobley and co-driver Allan Jackson take the plaudits on first round of new Defender Challenge by Bowler race series
  • Rally fans gather on Sweet Lamb hillside to witness the Mid Wales Stages event

Newtown, Wales, March 2014: The inaugural round of the Defender Challenge by Bowler one-make rally series officially began this weekend as the first teams to enter the competition rolled up to the start line in Newtown, Mid Wales, as part of Sundays Mid Wales Stages rally.

The culmination of a challenging first round, dogged by consistent rain, saw Edd Cobley and co-driver Allan Jackson claim a well-deserved first place after clocking a time of 66.16.5. Also showing decent pace in their first competitive stage rally were Damian Taft and co-driver Simon Taft, posting a time of 78.13.5, closely followed by Andrew Wicklow and Simon Armstrong in third with 79.05.9.

The 55 mile route saw teams race over forest roads and hillside tracks through areas including Pikes Peak and Sweet Lamb. Across five stages the drivers were able to hone their skills, driving on a mix of terrain including over loose gravel and through muddy tracks, with the rain creating slippery surfaces in places to provide a further test.

The day wasnt without incident, with the wet weather increasing throughout the day to challenge all drivers. On one of the last turns on Stage 4, driver Richard Hayward (car 302) slid out of a corner before mounting a bank and hitting a tree, sustaining transmission damage in the process of trying to return to the course. In the spirit of the Defender Challenge, racer Damien Taft (car 303) had slowed down to check if Hayward needed assistance before continuing, with Hayward and his co-driver Matt Lister able to get their vehicle back on the road. Hayward was able to complete the stage and, whilst the crew worked through the service to successfully get the car running, it transpired that the time taken to get the vehicle out of the ditch meant Hayward was over his time allocation so couldnt progress to the final stage.

Speaking at the finish point, Edd Cobley (car 301), 34, said: Today was absolutely fantastic. The Defender performed as it always performs, a brilliant drive and a great car. There were a few interesting moments on some of the hairpins but we had a really good day. We had great support from the organisers and from Bowler and I think we surprised a fair few people by nipping at peoples heels on the stage. In these wet conditions the Defender was in its element.

Speaking as he crossed the line, driver Damien Taft (car 303), 47 from Enville, said: Todays racing was awesome. We really progressed as the day went on and we got better stage by stage. The Defender was fantastic, it performed brilliantly. As our first round in the competition we couldnt have wished for anymore.

Taft added: For me, this is a first chance to get involved with Land Rover since I last competed which was twenty years ago in the Camel Trophy. I had the idea I wanted to rally again and the Defender Challenge provides the ideal step towards racing in the Dakar.

Speaking at the service centre, Drew Bowler, Managing Director of Bowler Motorsport, said: We couldnt be happier with how Round 1 of the Defender Challenge by Bowler has gone. The cars performed really well and the drivers have clearly enjoyed themselves, with a number of them developing through the day. The weather delivered some interesting challenges but we all did what we set out to do and the drivers are now up and running on the pathway to rally raid. The organisation of todays event was fantastic and we were all delighted with our welcome from the organisers, the other teams and the spectators.

Across the remaining six rounds, competitors will face a demanding blend of hill rallies and stage rallies spread across South Wales, Somerset, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire and Dorset, before the final round takes place in Scotland in mid-November. Entrants will also have the option of competing in additional rallies in Europe and North Africa alongside the Bowler Works team.

More teams are set to be added ahead of the second race of the series, with a total of up to 15 cars due to compete in this years series. Each team must take part in a minimum of five of the seven rounds, with their top five placings counting towards the final standings.

The ultimate aim of the series is to provide a route for teams to progress to top rally raid competitions such as the Dakar and the Africa Race, a pathway previously non-existent for drivers and teams aspiring to compete in the worlds toughest races. Competing in the Defender Challenge by Bowler are drivers with experience of races such as the Dakar, the Dubai Desert Challenge, and drivers for whom this will be their first stage rally. For Damien Taft, this was his first motorsport event since representing the UK in the 1994 Camel Trophy. In addition, Richard Hayward is a previous Dakar competitor and a second place finisher in the former London-Dakar race. Other drivers, such as Steve Richards and Andrew Wicklow, were racing in their first ever stage rally event, both with the aim of developing their skills and gaining the required licence to compete in the Dakar.

All competitors drive Bowler-prepared Land Rover Defender 90 vehicles that have been expertly modified for safety, performance and durability. The modifications to the competing Land Rover Defender 90 vehicles include a full MSA / FIA certified roll cage, fire extinguisher system, racing seats and harnesses, light-weight Bowler wheels, a full Bowler racing suspension system with bespoke springs and heavy duty racing dampers and an engine tuned to 175hp that delivers 450Nm of torque.

The Defender Challenge is a class within existing rally events where total entries of all classes will be between 80 and 130 cars (including the Defender Challenge cars). These events vary in distance and duration, but all will give the team (driver, navigator, service crew) an introductory experience of national level motorsport. Completion of the series will gain the driver their National B rally licence, and attendance at some of Bowlers overseas races will allow this to be converted into the International licence required for events such as the Dakar.

People wishing to find out more information about the Defender Challenge by Bowler should visit: www.bowlermotorsport.com. Updates during the race can be found on the @LandroverUKPR twitter feed.

Always fancied a quad bike, but never quite gone through with it? Then nows your chance. On Monday, 2nd December, Dacia, the home of truly affordable 4x4s, is launching a unique off-roading duo at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. An ATV (All-Terrain-Vehicle) Pack to go with a Duster, which includes a towbar and trailer fitted to it, plus a quad bike, from as little as 5,400. The mud-plugging abilities of Duster are widely known, not least by the sizeable collection of 4x4 awards its racked up in less than a year on sale over here. Now Dacias looking to plough a new furrow with buyers in rural communities right across the UK. Chances are a hefty proportion of buyers will end up using their new twin off-roaders for a little weekend fun. In fact, with up to 110hp on tap and weighing a relatively light 1294kg for its size, Dusters chances against a quad bike in a muddy field drag race might not be quite as clear-cut as you might think. But, theres a very good reason why theyve been deliberately let loose at the show in Llanelwedd, which draws in hordes of visitors each year. Which is? The offers been cannily timed so that the ATV-equipped Dusters arrive bang on time to coincide with lambing season next February.

Chunky, tough and perfectly at home with the rough stuff, it was probably only a matter of time before Duster was hooked up with a quad bike. In fact, in Access trim, some could say the similarities run even deeper. No radio. Air con. Or, even alloy wheels. But its probably the most honest off-roader this side of a Land Rover Defender, wearing its fit-for-purpose style with pride. Dacias flagship model is the perfect workhorse. Even so, just occasionally, its owners might hanker after something just as hardy, but a little more compact. Cue the ATV Pack. Available to buy through official Dacia Retailers, it comprises a Yahama Grizzly ATV, towbar and Ifor Williams P8e trailer with ramp, the offer can be tweaked perfectly to suit customer needs. Having said that, three combinations are expected to account for the bulk of orders. Firstly, the off-roading option, for both modes of transport. For 7,800 (including VAT), Duster customers, be they custodians of a 4x2 or 4x4 version, will be able to add a Yamaha ATV Grizzly 350 4WD. Teaming it with this countrys most affordable off-roader, Access 4x4 (11,095), brings it in well under 20 grand. Or, 18,895 to be exact. The most popular option is expected to be the Ambiance dCi 110 4x4, combined with the same quad bike for 21,495.

At the other end of the price spectrum, the two-wheel-drive Yamaha Grizzly 125 can be hooked up as part of a 5,400 offer. Adding it to the entry Duster 4x4 for example, would mean a total outlay of just 16,495. Ensuring that no owners miss out on the fun, the ATV Pack can be specified with any version of Duster, as well as both new and used. A full Yamaha dealer product handover and a free rider training course endorsed by EASI (European ATV Safety Initiative) are also thrown into the deal. Farmers, like all businessmen, will be able to claim back the VAT element of the ATV Pack. Sadly though, not on the car. Dacias Duster SUV has been rigorously engineered to cope with challenging terrain and climates right across the globe. Backing up its go-anywhere ability, is Alliance partner Nissans 4x4 system with selectable three modes, 2WD, Auto or Lock. Allied to which is an especially short first gear that helps with hill starts, steep descents and towing. In contrast, Yamahas Grizzly line-up, or quad bike to you and me, is Europes best-selling utility ATV range. Its 348cc engine (Grizzly 350) gives it an impressive turn of speed, plus it includes the proven On-Comand 2WD/4WD system and a towing capacity of 500kg.

Dacia, the smart buy offshoot of Renault, has made an enemy of the unnecessary and makes a simple range of cleverly designed, high quality vehicles. Its jaw-dropping prices are clear and straightforward, whether you buy its cars online at the Dacia Store on www.dacia.co.uk or through your local dealer. All of the latest range information is available at www.dacia.co.uk, 150 Dacia Retailers across the UK, or, by calling 0844 335 1111.

Land Rover is the most successful manufacturer in 4x4 Magazines 2014 awards, securing two class wins and the ultimate 4x4 of the Year title. The new Range Rover Sport saw off competition from 24 of the markets finest all-wheel drive models to take both the Premium class and the overall 2014 honour, while the Range Rover Evoque proved its mettle by claiming honours in the Top Range SUV class. The Land Rover Defender was highly recommended in the Hardcore class and the new Range Rover was second only to its Range Rover Sport sibling in the Premium category.

Presenting the results in the winter issue of 4x4 Magazine, Editor Nigel Fryatt said: The Range Rover Sport is a worthy winner of the prestigious 2014 4x4 of the Year award. Indeed it is such a significant vehicle that you wonder if it is the best product ever to come from the Land Rover stable, of any era. After putting the Range Rover Sport through its paces, the judges gave it an unmatched 90 per cent score, highlighting the 3.0-litre SDV6 engine, on-road handling, off-road prowess, towing ability, comfort and design as its stand-out features. Their report hailed the model as the revelation of the premium group, if not the whole test and made special reference to the quality of the Terrain Response 2 system for tackling all kinds of off-road scenarios. Where on-road performance is concerned, they declared the Range Rover Sport is a pure pleasure to drive and referenced the contribution made by its independent air suspension on ride quality.

The Range Rover Evoque once again demonstrated that Land Rovers advanced styling and premium quality are not at the expense of true all-terrain performance. Evoque was the class of the Top Range field in the awards test, netting an 88 per cent score from the judges. They appreciated its boldly styled and superbly crafted interior and the fact it has the handling feel of a sport car half its size. Design, on-road handling and off-road competence were singled out as the qualities defining its success. Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks, said: These awards are very much appreciated, not least because 4x4 Magazine subjects its awards contenders to such rigorous, expert scrutiny. The results help demonstrate that we are successfully pushing the boundaries of all-terrain vehicle engineering and design to address the changing requirements of todays customers. We have a great heritage, but it is vital that we continue to build on that foundation with models like Evoque, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport that deliver in terms of style, premium quality and on-road handling as well as fundamental all-terrain capabilities.

The legendary Jeep Wrangler continues to demonstrate its award-winning credentials after taking 4x4 Magazines 4x4 of the Year, Hardcore class for the second year running. The award, which goes specifically to the four-door Wrangler, comes from the specialist publications panel of expert judges, who put the rugged US-built off-roader above some extremely capable competitors. In the same awards, Jeeps new Grand Cherokee received a Highly Commended accolade in the Premiums category. In awarding it top honours, the 4x4 of the Year competition judges praised the Wranglers value for money, comfortable interior, off-roading ability, towing prowess and iconic design.

The Jeep Wrangler remains 4x4 Magazines Hardcore Class champion. It effortlessly demonstrates its off-road capabilities with immense power and torque, while delivering a gorgeously low, first crawler gear for when finesse is needed, says Nigel Fryatt, editor, 4x4 Magazine. All this in a comfortable, well equipped interior. Our only real criticism? There should be more of them around. It's the classic 4x4 vehicle that is instantly recognisable the world over. The Jeep Wrangler is the essence of what Jeep stands for and we're honoured to receive a top award such as the Hardcore 4x4 of the Year," says Steve Zanlunghi, managing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK. "We're especially happy to win in consecutive years as it speaks volumes for the design and capability of the current generation Wrangler."

The diesel-powered, automatic Wrangler returns 34.9 mpg (34.0 mpg 4-door) on the combined cycle and has a CO2 figure of 213 g/km (217 g/km 4-door). Prices start at 27,315 OTR for the two-door Wrangler 2.8 CRD Sahara, rising to 31,670 OTR for the four-door 2.8 CRD Overland Axle +. Now with lower emissions of 198 g/km together with fuel consumption of up to 37.7 mpg (combined), the new Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel range also offers real value in terms of running costs. The new Grand Cherokee range starts at 36,995 (OTR) for the 3.0 CRD V6 CRD Laredo, rising to 49,495 (OTR) for the 3.0 V6 CRD Summit.

The new Range Rover Sport has set the fastest recorded time for a land vehicle crossing of the Empty Quarter one of the harshest and most challenging desert environments on the planet. The Empty Quarter - or Rub' al Khali - is the largest sand desert in the world and the second largest desert after the Sahara. Intensely hot by day with temperatures exceeding 50C, it is also dangerously arid. With no reliable water sources and an ever-shifting terrain, it provides a true test for man and machine.

The drive team completed the journey from Wadi Adda Wasir in Saudi Arabia to the border of the United Arab Emirates in 10 hours and 22 minutes at an average speed of 51.87 mph (81.87 km/h), covering a distance of 849km the route dictated by the conditions on the ground. The time was set by a standard production new Range Rover Sport with a 510PS 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, running standard tyres. The only modification to the vehicle was the fitment of an underbody protection plate. The vehicle was driven by Land Rover driver Moi Torrallardona, a 47 year-old Spanish off-road racer with extensive experience of the Dakar Rally, in which he competed for ten successive years with a best finish of 6th overall.

Torrallardona said: The challenge of the desert is like nothing else, it is a brutal, unforgiving and sometimes deadly environment. Desert driving requires a unique combination of speed, finesse and technical skill. It is crucial that you tackle the dunes with precision. Knowing the right time to go full throttle and the right time to slow down, takes experience and clear judgement. This unique way of driving requires a vehicle which has the same skillset it must be both incredibly fast but also agile, responsive and well planted. The Range Rover Sport is exactly that. It is massively capable and is truly the best tool for conquering the desert. The team encountered a constantly challenging landscape including vast sand flats, soft dunes and epic canyons. They set off at first light on November 3rd and finished the challenge 10 hours later on the border as the sun was setting. The challenge is the second that the new Range Rover Sport has completed in recent months, following its record hill climb for a production SUV at Pikes Peak back in June. These feats are part of a series of global driving challenges in which the Range Rover Sport is pushed to new limits.

The Empty Quarter spans four countries in the Arabic Peninsula: Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Temperatures regularly rise above 50C and any crossing, no matter how well organised, must be approached with extreme caution.

The new SsangYong Rexton W reaches the UK this winter bringing an all new-look to a familiar model line, inside and out.

SsangYong is gaining a solid reputation for producing strong, comprehensively equipped and extremely well priced vehicles and this latest addition to the range further underlines this. Noted for being an extremely competent off-roader, Rexton W is the third iteration of the Rexton, a car that has won customers and admiration around the world since its launch in 2001. Commented Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK: With prices starting from only 21,995, this new car has an almost unrivalled position in the 4x4 sector, particularly as prices for our Korean and Japanese competitors have migrated steadily upwards over recent years. Built on a proper ladder chassis, Rexton W is a serious off-roader, yet with all the equipment and creature comforts expected of an urban cruiser. Subaru has today announced the launch of the Subaru XV Black, a new limited edition variant of the manufacturers popular compact crossover. The XV Black models will be available with either Subarus 2.0-litre Boxer diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, or the 2.0-litre Boxer petrol unit and a Lineartronic automatic transmission.

Exclusively finished in Crystal Black Silica paint, the XV Black offers a number of visual additions unique to the special edition model, which are designed to boost the cars rugged, go-anywhere appeal. These include front, rear and side silver-resin underguards, front and rear mudflaps, a cargo step panel and a foldable cargo tray. Inside, the Black model is fitted with heavy-duty rubber floor mats. The All-Wheel-Drive XV Black is priced at 24,495 (on-the-road) for the 2.0i Lineartronic and 24,995 for the 2.0 Boxer diesel, and is based on the existing SE model. Motorists will pay just 1,000 for all the extras fitted as standard to the XV Black, which if fitted separately as options to other models in the range would total over 1,600, meaning the new Limited Edition model offers both exclusivity and value for money.

The XV enjoys a class-leading five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating and at 90%, one of the highest scores for child occupant protection ever recorded, making it ideal for young families. Perfectly suited to everyday use in an urban or out of town environment, the go anywhere XV combines the highest ground clearance of any vehicle in its segment with the lowest centre of gravity. Efficient engines and lightweight body mean the XV is able to return a 50.4mpg on the combined cycle and emits only 146 g/km CO2 (2.0-litre diesel models). The new XV Black Limited Edition features Subarus typically generous standard equipment levels, including Subarus standard-fit Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, providing world-class hazard avoidance capabilities. Other standard features include front, side, curtain and knee airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, heated front seats, wiper de-icers, cruise control, folding door mirrors, dual-zone air-conditioning, rear view safety camera, Bluetooth, HID headlamps, and rear privacy glass.

Today, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) starts retail sales of its pioneering Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (or PHEV) with the first units reaching The Netherlands the designated launch country in Europe - after production commenced late August at MMCs Okazaki plant, near Nagoya.

Much expected by dealers and customers in a region forecasted to be its largest global market, Outlander PHEV has already achieved over 10,000 signed orders across Europe since December 2012. Managing a fine balance between production capacity and overall demand, MMC will launch Outlander PHEV sequentially in Europe, starting with selected PHEV markets (The Netherlands, Nordic countries, etc) from this month onwards.

Quite competitive (purchase price and running costs), the EU-specs Outlander PHEV only differs from its Japanese market equivalent in complying with mandatory EU regulations and with a chassis fine-tuned to better suit European driving style.

As a reminder, essential EU market performance figures for the (permanent electric Twin Motor 4WD) Outlander PHEV include:

  • Maximum driving range : 824 km*
  • Range in Pure EV Mode : 52 km*
  • Fuel consumption : 1.9 l/100 km*
  • CO2 emissions : 44 g/km*
  • Maximum speed : 170 km/h (where legal)
  • Charging:
    5 hours normal charging (230V / 10A)
30 minutes quick charging / up to 80% (CHAdeMO standard)
  • Max. cargo volume: 463 l (VDA method w/rear passengers)
  • Towing capacity: 1,500 kg (w/brakes)
  • Curb weight: 1810 kg
*measured as per EU mode

Neither a mere adaptation of an existing Internal Combustion Engined (ICE) vehicle, nor a dedicated Plug-in Hybrid EV high tech showcase, Outlander PHEV is rather a further variant of New Outlander next to the petrol or diesel options - and developed as such from the start of the program: a unique / no-compromise proposal in the industry. The first self-power generating Twin Motor (permanent) 4WD Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Outlander PHEV meets its market at a time of profound changes in the mindset of global customers, vindicating Mitsubishi Motors claim of 20% of its production made of electric/hybrid/plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2020.

Subarus best-selling model, the Forester compact SUV, has won the coveted 2014 Sport / Utility of the Year award from the USAs influential Motor Trend magazine. The Foresters latest accolade makes Subaru the first and only brand to have won three Sport / Utility of the Year awards from Motor Trend, which is read by over 1.1 million people every month. The previous-generation Forester picked up the award in 2009, and the Subaru Outback was also crowned winner in 2010.

The Subaru Forester beat 21 other SUVs to take first place during Motor Trends exhaustive testing process, with models graded according to six criteria: Design Advancement, Engineering Excellence, Intended Function, Efficiency, Safety and Value. The new Forester scored highly in all categories. Motor Trendeditor-in-chief Ed Loh commented: Smart design, thoughtful engineering, and a compelling performance on-road and off were the keys to the Foresters win. Our editors were particularly impressed by the powerful yet efficient turbocharged engines, the intelligent and sporty CVT transmission, and the excellent visibility and interior package. Practical, affordable, efficient and fun-to-drive the Forester truly ticked every box.

The new Forester went on sale in the UK in May 2013, and builds upon the models reputation as a modern, rugged SUV with improved performance, safety and efficiency and a more spacious and better appointed cabin. Since the UK launch, sales of the new model have been strong, with particularly high demand for the XT Turbo model which is bucking the market trend for diesel SUV sales, equipped as it is with a 240ps 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine delivering smooth and strong pulling power both on and off-road. Over 41 cars were assessed by the judges from under 16,000 to over 51,000, and the Korando saw off stiff competition from other leading brands in the Vehicles under 16,000 Class. The citation for the Korando stated: The vehicle pulled well through all the gears and gave a smooth ride. Stability at speed was good and it tackled the hill route with enthusiasm. A very economical vehicle, and a worthy class winner. Accepting the award, Steve Gray, communications and marketing director at SsangYong Motor UK, said: We are absolutely thrilled. In order to highlight the most adventurous soul and legendary 4x4 capabilities of the iconic Jeep Wrangler, the new limited-edition, customised Wrangler Polar model will be revealed on the Jeep stand in Frankfurt in the Wrangler four-door configuration, and will boast an all-new Hydro Blue exterior colour matched to a Black interior. On the heels of the success of recently launched - and sold out - limited-edition customisations of Jeep Wrangler, this new special model sports a unique trim level dedicated to all those enthusiasts searching for adventure and absolute performance in extreme driving conditions. Featuring exclusive styling cues, 18" Gloss Black alloy wheels, body-colour hardtop and original Mopar accessories, the new Jeep Wrangler Polar will be available in Europe in the first quarter of 2014, in both two- and four-door versions, powered by the brilliant 2.8-litre turbo diesel.

Jeep Wrangler Polar takes its cue from the severe climate and extreme conditions that characterise the Antarctic region. The "Polar" badge located on the vehicle's side shows off the 78 S and 106 E coordinates that correspond to the location of Vostok in Antarctica: the exact point where the absolute severest temperature in the world was recorded at -89.2 C (-128.56 F). Thus the theme of winter that in the past inspired the creation of highly appreciated special series now returns in the making of this new special-edition model. The winter theme is what lies behind the choice of the Wrangler Polar's unique styling cues suggesting class-leading capabilities and the use of distinctive interior colours and details that recall features from the Antarctic region.

The new Jeep Wrangler Polar was designed to express the freedom of going beyond the known limits to venture into unexplored territories: an experience that only Wrangler enthusiasts can enjoy, thanks to the reliability and safety granted by a vehicle featuring benchmark technology and unmatched off-road expertise achieved in more than seventy years of history. With its hostile routes and severe climate, the Antarctic region offers the driving conditions that the iconic Jeep Wrangler was engineered to conquer.

Based on the Jeep Wrangler Sahara model, the exterior of the new Wrangler Polar boasts unique features that contribute to distinguish it aesthetically from all the other models in the Jeep lineup. First of all, the new front grille, featuring unique Gloss Black accents on the lamp throats, and the new hard spare-tyre cover are both new styling cues introduced specifically for this limited-edition model. Further exterior appointments characterizing the Wrangler Polar are the Powerdome hood and the body-colour hardtop with deep-tint sunscreen glass. A Gloss Black Jeep logo above the front grille and Gloss Black 18" alloy wheels enhance the distinctive look of the vehicle. Completing the exterior appointment of the new Jeep Wrangler Polar special-edition model is the unique, three-colour bonnet decal, featuring the outline of mountains, and the black fuel-filler door from Mopar.

Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler 4-Door are available in the Sahara, Overland and Rubicon trim levels and are all powered by the 2.8-litre turbo diesel Common-Rail engine featuring Stop/Start technology. The 3.6-litre V-6 petrol engine is available on special order in the UK.

Land Rover is launching its first-ever hybrid models the Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid which will deliver outstanding fuel economy, significantly lower CO2 emissions and retain Land Rovers renowned capability and performance. Order books in the UK will open from September 10 with first deliveries in early 2014, the two all-aluminium models are based on Land Rovers Premium Lightweight Architecture and share an identical powertrain. They are the worlds first premium diesel SUV hybrids.

We are excited to introduce the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Hybrids, the worlds first hybrid SUVs with legendary Land Rover capability. The addition of a smooth electric drive enhances refinement, cuts CO2 emissions and delivers staggering performance on a par with our SDV8 engine, said John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director. To demonstrate the capabilities of the new hybrids, three Range Rover Hybrids will embark tomorrow (Thursday, August 22) on an epic trip, from the home of the Range Rover brand in Solihull to the home of the parent company Tata, in Mumbai, India. This Silk Trail 2013 16,000km expedition visits 12 countries and takes in some of the worlds most challenging roads, passes and trails, including part of the ancient, 4,000 mile Silk Road connecting Asia with the Mediterranean. These are the first hybrids to ever attempt this challenging route. The new Range Rover Hybrid powertrain features three driver-selectable modes and combines Land Rovers popular 3-litre SDV6 diesel engine with a 35kW electric motor integrated with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The hybrid system, including lithium ion battery pack, inverter and electric motor weighs less than 120kg.

The electric motor produces 170Nm torque to boost acceleration and drives the vehicle in EV Mode. The motor also acts as a generator, harvesting kinetic energy through regenerative braking, charging the battery when the vehicle is slowing. In driver-selectable EV mode the Range Rover Hybrid can travel at speeds of up to 30mph (48km/h) for a range of up to one mile (1.6km) before the diesel engine seamlessly restarts. Together, output of the diesel engine and electric motor is 340PS at 4,000rpm and a class-leading 700Nm torque between 1,500-3,000rpm, resulting in stunning SDV8-style performance. Both models accelerate to 62mph (100km/h) in under seven seconds, deliver strong transient and mid-range performance with a top speed of 135mph (218km/h), combined with a 26 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions to 169g/km, equivalent to 44.1mpg on the combined cycle.

The latest generation Range Rover models have all been designed with the integration of a hybrid system in mind. Consequently, the liquid cooled battery pack is mounted beneath the floor of the vehicle in a protective boron-steel cradle without impacting on the cabin or luggage space. The Range Rover Hybrid has the same five-seat capacity and luggage space as the standard vehicle and retains the full-size spare wheel. This no-compromise philosophy is echoed in the Range Rover Sport Hybrid whose interior is unchanged from the standard model, right down to the 5+2 seating. Both hybrid Range Rover models continue to deliver a class-leading breadth of capability and versatility, enhanced by the exceptionally linear torque delivery from the powertrain and retaining Land Rovers peerless four-wheel drive system including Terrain Response 2, with uncompromised wading and ground clearance.

The Silk Trail 2013 expedition featuring the new Range Rover Hybrids is scheduled to visit France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China and India. The expedition will be broken into 10 separate legs, with the Range Rover Hybrid vehicles driven by teams of Land Rover development engineers and invited media arriving in Mumbai on October 15.

The innovative 4x4 is a rolling laboratory to develop new ideas, and investigate electrification in a real-world environment. A fleet of six vehicles will be placed with organisations where their performance can be assessed.

The Defender 110 Pick Up badged All terrain Electric Research Vehicle effortlessly tows the four-carriage 12 tonne road train carrying up to 60 passengers on a 6 per cent incline to and from the iconic hexagonal-panelled domes. The vehicle has been designed to perform its duties throughout each day before being recharged over night for the approximate cost of 2.00. The Electric Defender has all the qualities and performance which have become associated with the Land Rover brand during the past 65 years. It has full all-terrain capability, permanent 4WD and a top speed of 70mph. However, it has been engineered in-house by Land Rover to test out the latest sustainable technologies. The vehicles Hill Descent Control is linked to a regenerative braking function, and overall up to 80 per cent of the cars kinetic energy can be recovered. During each downhill trip at the Eden Project up to 30kW will be fed back into the batteries. Land Rovers acclaimed Terrain Response system has been adapted for electric drive, offering a 50-mile range with a reserve of a further 12.5 miles.

The result is a zero tailpipe emissions vehicle like no other; eight hours of low-speed off-road use is achievable, and it takes 10 hours for the advanced lithium-ion batteries to be fully charged. Fast-charge technology reducing that to just fours is also possible. Jeremy Greenwood, Principal Engineer on the Electric Defender project, said the car was ideal for the sensitive ecology of the Eden Project. In addition, the repetitive nature of the work will provide excellent data for future electric vehicles. The car has been modified so it now includes a second battery, Jeremy explained. That will allow it to work a full day at the Eden Project, but also improves weight distribution and stability. In addition, weve linked the land-trains air brakes to the foot pedal of the Land Rover, enhancing safety. Gus Grand, Climate Change Lead at the Eden Project, said: Were very pleased to be working with Land Rover on this exciting project. It will be a great talking point for our visitors and proves that electric vehicles can be every bit as tough and rugged as their fossil fuel counterparts, while being much quieter, cheaper to run and with zero emissions at the point of use.

According to J.D. Power 2013 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study released today, the Land Rover Range Rover achieves the highest APEAL score in its segment and of any model in the industry in 2013, which marks the first time a model outside the large premium car segment has done so. The Land Rover brand ranks 4th overall, an improvement of two placements from 6th in 2012. Land Rover's Range Rover was the award recipient for Large Premium Crossover/SUV in both 2010 and 2011.

"Its a fantastic achievement for the fourth generation Range Rover to be ranked highest in the J.D. Power 2013 APEAL Study, says Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America. This underscores the investment being made to innovation and engineering across the Land Rover product portfolio and into making this vehicle the most refined, most capable Range Rover ever. The lighter and stronger 2013 Range Rover takes luxury and capability to a new level, with greater refinement and enhanced performance and handling on all terrains. As the fourth generation of the Range Rover line, this model was developed from the ground up, capturing the innovative spirit and iconic design of the original model which changed the world of motoring when it was launched over 40 years ago. The new Range Rover was launched last October to acclaim, receiving over 20 awards and accolades globally to date. It is the world's first aluminum unibody SUV, weighing around 700lbs lighter than the outgoing model.

Since going on sale this past December, the fourth generation Range Rover has been received with strong demand across the U.S. Over 6,000 Range Rovers have been sold in the U.S. this year and sales of the model have led to 28 percent year-over-year increase. The APEAL Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle appeal, has been completely redesigned for 2013. The study, now in its 18th year, has been updated to better measure the appeal of todays vehicles, particularly with respect to the new technologies and features now being offered. Owners evaluate their vehicle across 77 attributes, which roll up into an overall APEAL score on a 1,000-point scale. The study is used extensively by manufacturers worldwide to help them design and develop more appealing vehicles and by consumers to help them in their purchase decisions. The 2013 APEAL Study is based on responses gathered between February and May 2013 from more than 83,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2013 model-year cars and light trucks who were surveyed after the first 90 days of ownership. The APEAL Study complements the Initial Quality Study (IQS), which focuses on problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days of ownership.

The shockingly affordable Dacia Duster is now available in a Goodwood Festival of Speed special Black Edition. Having taken the UK by storm since arriving at the start of this year, with over 4,000 orders to date already, the award-winning smart-buy SUV now looks even meaner for the price.

The Dacia Duster Ambiance dCi 110 4x2 Black Edition is loaded with extras, including a striking brushed black vinyl wrap finish, luxurious ash leather interior, hi-tech Kenwood media system and stylish 18 alloy wheels. The media system includes a 6 high resolution screen, Garmin satellite navigation with TMC traffic information, DAB, Bluetooth with hands-free calling, ipod connectivity, DVD playback and rear USB connection. With an on-the-road price of just 17,575, the Romanian SUV continues to blow the competition away when it comes to value for money. The Black Edition was a one-off creation released to celebrate the historic Goodwood Festival of Speed the largest car culture event in the world held in July. Overwhelming interest at the event has resulted in the car now being available to be ordered by UK customers with first deliveries from October.

Phil York, Dacias UK Marketing Director, said: The Dacia Duster Black Edition is a mean, more upmarket version of what is already a great selling vehicle. I challenge anybody to drive home such a great looking SUV, with or without 4x4, with so much kit for anywhere near the money. Already the nations most affordable SUV by a mile, Dacia Duster is also winning over more fans after being hailed one of its least depreciating new cars. Dacia, a subsidiary of the French carmaker Renault, has made an enemy of the unnecessary and makes a simple range of cleverly designed, high quality vehicles which unashamedly favour function over frivolity. Its jaw-dropping prices are clear and straightforward, whether you buy online at the Dacia Store on www.dacia.co.uk or through its nationwide retailer network. Dacia only launched officially in the UK in January 2013, but has already cleaned up nine major awards, including a hat-trick of trophies at the carbuyer.co.uk 2013 awards, including Car of Year and 4x4 of the Year, plus Scottish Car of the Year for Duster, and Best Supermini under 12,000 for Sandero with What Car?.

Marine explorer Monty Halls presented Land Rover with an unprecedented challenge to design and engineer a Dive Centre Defender. A dual purpose Land Rover Defender specially equipped to provide not just transport for his diving and film crews, but also to serve as a mobile base camp and dive centre in remote, off-road locations.

Halls, a newly appointed Land Rover global ambassador, admitted he didnt believe all his ambitious specifications could be met, but the specialists in Land Rovers Engineered to Order (ETO) team have succeeded in creating a unique vehicle tailor-made to his requirements. Just as Jacques Cousteau had his trusted ship Calypso, Monty will have ideal support in the form his unique Land Rover Defender. True to the Defenders above and beyond ethos, Montys bespoke vehicle is packed with clever engineering and design solutions that take its functionality to a new level. His brief was for a vehicle that could support his diving and conservation expeditions a one-stop, go-anywhere, cope-with-anything dive centre and laboratory. The modifications included features specific to Montys work such as storage for diving air tanks, a VHF ship-to-shore-style radio, a water tank and hosing facility for cleaning kit and provisions for night working, such as external lighting. Monty also asked for a sliding table, strong enough to bear up to 200kg and an awning to give protection from the elements. Although he himself thought this might be impossible to include, the engineering team duly delivered what he wanted. Even more challenging to achieve was his requirement to be able to attach a trailer to either side of the vehicle with a winch system for launching or landing a dinghy. Monty is a great advocate for the brand, with years of Land Rover experience gained in the field in his earlier career as a Royal Marine, and in his current role as a popular and respected marine wildlife and conservation expert, diver, film maker and author. He said: Ive had Land Rovers for years; the association goes back to my days in the Royal Marines when they were very much the vehicle of choice for doing improbable tasks over impossible terrain. After leaving the marines and getting into expeditions, it seems a natural transition to continue using Landies. Ive had several old Defenders, a new Defender, Freelander and the new Discovery, so I am a Land Rover fan through and through.

Although most of Montys exploration is beneath the waves, the all-terrain capability of a Land Rover Defender is crucial for getting him to remote locations and providing a versatile and reliable base of his work in the field. Looking forward to his new ambassadorial role, he said: My specialty is sea level and below, so people might think my options are limited. But the reality is we have 11,000 miles of coastline in the UK and frequently the only way to reach it is overland, taking all your equipment with you. Monty is already planning expeditions where his new Land Rover Defender will be set to work, including a project to monitor basking sharks off Cornwall and observing Orca whales in Norway. He explained: The vehicle will be perfect to access high points for viewing their movements, as well as putting boats into the water in remote coves. When he is not out in the field, Monty will also be using his new Defender as part of his regular ambassador work in his touring shows and lectures at schools and colleges. Mark Cameron, Land Rover Brand Experience Director said: Working with Monty on this project has provided a great opportunity to practically demonstrate the skill and flexibility of our engineers to create bespoke customer solutions. This one off interpretation of the Land Rover Defender will provide real value to Montys marine research projects and of course this fits very well with Land Rovers Above and Beyond spirit.

Now a new model, on sale in the UK on 19 July, will continue that tradition. With a new look outside and in, new cutting-edge technology and improved performance on-road and off, the Grand Cherokee remains the ultimate Jeep in terms of power, comfort, craftsmanship and sophistication. The British market will be able to choose from two engines, three power outputs, and six trim levels. Whether its the potent 3.0-litre turbo diesel or the blisteringly quick 6.4-litre SRT model, every 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee will come with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. This significantly reduces consumption and emissions while improving acceleration and delivering smoother, faster gear changes.

As befits a premium model, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is packed with technology. Ahead theres a new TFT (Thin Film Transistor) 7-inch configurable driver display in the instrument cluster. On the dashboard sits a new Uconnect display with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Limited Plus, Overland, Summit and SRT models have the new Smartouch satellite navigation as standard; it can be specified in all other models. The top-of-the-range Summit and high-performance SRT come with a state-of-the-art 19-speaker, 825-watt Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system.

A stand-out feature of all models is the comprehensive array of safety equipment. This includes new Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop (available late 2013), Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation and new Selec-Speed Control which supplement the rich array of more than 60 standard-fit active and passive safety systems. Legendary Jeep capability comes courtesy of three four-wheel drive systems. These include the accomplished Quadra-Trac II, the on-road focused and SRT-exclusive Quadra-Trac and the sophisticated Quadra-Drive II with its rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differential. These are complemented by the Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension and the Selec-Terrain and Selec-Trac traction management systems which ensure the Grand Cherokees power is put to good use in all conditions.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in Laredo, Limited, Limited Plus, Overland and the exclusive top of the range Summit trim. All these models feature the 3.0-litre CRD engine which employs Fiat Group Automobiles ground breaking MultiJet 2 technology for a class-leading compromise between effortless power and fuel-saving efficiency. The Laredo model features a lower-powered version of the CRD engine while the high-performance SRT gets the punchy 6.4-litre V8 HEMI engine delivering 461 bhp. There are nine colour options for exterior paintwork along with five wheel designs. A raft of distinctive new colours inside ensures there really will never be a dull moment in the life of the new Grand Cherokee owner

Suzuki has a strong global heritage for its 4WD models and now, following sales success in Japan as well as several European Countries including Germany and Switzerland, Suzuki is launching the 4x4 Swift in the UK and it goes on sale this month. Swift 4x4 will be available as a five door 1.2 petrol model with manual transmission and equipped as either an SZ3 or SZ4 grade. Apart from 4x4 badging and a slightly increased body ride height of 25mm the SZ3 grade appears identical to an equivalent SZ3 five door. The SZ4 model has a more rugged appearance and offers extra protection over rough ground by adding front and rear skid plates, black wheel arch extensions and black side skirts.

This new model has a proven and simple fully automatic and permanent 4-wheel drive system which transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when required via a viscous coupling, further enhancing the already highly acclaimed cornering ability of the Swift. It is also an ideal choice for customers living in rural areas needing additional mobility or for crossing slippery surfaces during winter without owning a larger and more conventional SUV sized vehicle. Thanks to the use of small and lightweight components Swift 4x4 is just 65kg heavier than an equivalent 2WD petrol model and emissions are only 10g/km higher at 126g/km.

Included in Suzukis recently extended VAT free offers, the 4WD Swift is priced at 11,516 for SZ3 and 13,116 for the higher specified SZ4 model which now includes power folding door mirrors with integral indicators and Daylight Running Lamps as standard equipment.

The New Generation Santa Fe was last night hailed as Best Large SUV by Auto Express after beating tough competition in the publications annual New Car Awards. New Generation Santa Fe was launched in October 2012 and has struck a chord with customers looking for a large SUV that delivers everything expected from a premium model but in a more affordable package.

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, said: The Santa Fe has done what many thought was impossible - its stopped the Land Rover Discovery from winning its ninth consecutive Auto Express award. We had high hopes for the Santa Fe and weren't disappointed as it ticks all the boxes for buyers of large SUVs. It has the looks that'll turn heads, wherever you go. It has the comfort needed for long journeys or just trips to the shops. It also has the ability to tackle different terrains and offers huge practicality with space for up to seven people.

Tony Whitehorn, CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: This award is testament to just how far the Hyundai brand and its products have come in recent years. The original Santa Fe - launched back in 2000 - played an important role in redefining our brand with consumers. Now, New Generation Santa Fe has proven that Hyundai can compete with more established brands on its own terms - and win! We think that the New Generation Santa Fe will not only appeal to existing customers with its fresh design and improved levels of standard technology, but will attract a new range of buyers looking for a stylish, premium and authentic SUV. New Generation Santa Fe went on sale in the UK on October 2012 and is powered by a 197PS 2.2-litre CRDi engine mated to six-speed manual or automatic transmission, returning up to 47.9mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions as low as 155g/km. Three trim levels are available, with five- and seven-seat configurations offered. New Generation Santa Fes suspension has been tuned specifically for UK roads to ensure a refined and cosseting ride, and the SUV was named the safest car in its class assessed by Euro NCAP during 2012, with the best scores in the Large Off-Road 4x4 class

Volkswagens highly-acclaimed Amarok has scooped the award for Best Pick-Up for the second consecutive year at the Auto Express New Car Awards. Praised for its styling, carrying capacity, efficient engines and high-quality interior the Amarok remains the vehicle of choice in the pick-up sector. Auto Express, Britains biggest-selling weekly car magazine, held its New Car Awards last night in London. Announcing the results before a VIP industry audience the magazines Editor in Chief, Steve Fowler, said: Volkswagen might be a relative newcomer to the world of pick-ups, but with the Amarok its produced a real winner. There are no compromises with an Amarok it has the carrying capacity and ease of use that makes light work of heavy loads, yet up front there are all the creature comforts and driving attributes weve come to expect from Volkswagen.

Commenting on the award Alex Smith, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, added: Since its launch in 2011 the Amarok has redefined what buyers can expect from a hard-working, durable and reliable pick-up. Demand continues to grow year-on-year, which is a trend we expect to continue thanks to the launch of the ultra-stylish, limited-run Amarok edition. Winning this award for two consecutive years is an enormous achievement and testament to the quality of the vehicle. Using Volkswagens latest 2.0-litre common rail diesel engine to bring new levels of refinement and efficiency to the pick-up market, the Amarok is just as powerful as, and more efficient than, rivals that use larger capacity units. It also has some of the lowest emissions in the sector, and was the first to dip under the 200 g/km CO2 threshold. The Amarok range offers three trim levels, a choice of permanent or selectable 4MOTION, and a load area wide enough to fit a euro pallet.

Since May 2012 the Amarok has been built at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles factory in Hanover, Germany, reducing delivery times for UK buyers. Prices start from 19,365 (excluding VAT). For full details of the Amarok visit www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk or call 0800 717131.

Land Rover vehicles have again proved they can do battle with the best, scooping three top prizes at the annual Auto Express Awards. The all-new Range Rover was voted Best Luxury Car by the judging panel, which consists of the magazines road testers and other senior staff members. Steve Fowler, Auto Express Editor-in-Chief commented: The new Range Rover is an awesome achievement, combining the highest standards of luxury with a hitherto impossible blend of on-road comfort and off-road ability. To do all that with such style and efficiency makes it a worthy winner. The Range Rover also won Auto Express Design Award, voted for by magazine readers and website visitors. More than 80 production cars and concept vehicles were eligible, yet the Range Rover came out on top. Steve Fowler added: Its testimony to the work Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern and his team have done in reinventing this motoring icon, especially when you see the long list of beautiful cars the Range Rover beat.

Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern said: "Designing the All-New Range Rover for a new era was always going to be a significant challenge; particularly finding the right balance between maintaining its iconic form while giving it greater relevance and modernity. It also had to sit comfortably as the flagship of a whole new generation of Range Rovers. This award is particularly significant to us at Land Rover as it is voted for by the Auto Express readers themselves and reflects the efforts of everyone in the Land Rover Design Team." The all-new Range Rover is the most capable and most luxurious Land Rover yet. Up to 420 kilogrammes lighter with new levels of refinement, the Range Rover reinforces its position as the world's finest luxury SUV. Not to be left out was the Range Rover Evoque, which was awarded the honour of Best Compact SUV. Its the magazines former Car of the Year and is receiving an Auto Express trophy for the third year in a row. Steve Fowler commented: Its star is showing no sign of dimming. We love its style, quality and ability on and off-road. It remains one of the most desirable cars on sale in the UK today.

With more than 130 global awards under its belt, the Evoque has gained critical acclaim from customers and media alike. The Evoque continues to receive plaudits for its concept car looks, dynamic driving performance, class leading off-road skills and excellent cost of ownership. Most recently, a Special Edition Evoque was launched in the UK which is available in coup and 5-door, customers can choose from two exterior colour schemes, each one unique to the Special Edition model and based on a new Black Design Pack. Choices include a Sicilian Yellow exterior body finish with a Santorini Black contrast roof, or a Santorini Black exterior body finish with a Sicilian Yellow contrast roof and door mirrors. Unique interior finishes include yellow contrast stitching on seats, central storage area, door trims and fascia mid-section, plus an anodised yellow horizontal finisher.

The awards were announced at a gala event at the Grand Connaught Rooms, in Londons Covent Garden. Jeremy Hicks, Managing Director for Jaguar Land Rover UK commented: Three trophies in one night is a fantastic achievement, but whats especially pleasing is they each recognise distinct aspects of our business. The Range Rover has set new standards in luxury, the Evoque continues to be the benchmark car for compact SUVs, and industry leading design will always be at the heart of everything we do.
